Guitar

Dan Huber
Guitar, Electric Bass, Upright Bass
Available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
Dan started playing piano in grade school and switched to guitar and bass in high school. He studied upright bass and graduated with his Bachelors of Music at Ohio University. Dan intensely studied classical and jazz but has always played in at least two rock bands. Currently, he plays in Mos Funnel, the Indoor Kids, and with Joseph Messing. His musical projects range from jazz to metal and he has taught at A Sound Education since moving to Chicago in 2004.

Fred Krubel
Guitar
Available Tuesday through Saturday
From Bach to Metallica to Charlie Parker, Fred is well versed in all styles of music. Drawing from his 12 years of playing experience, he teaches each student songs, music reading, proper technique and music theory. Composition and improvisation skills are also stressed. Fred earned his Bachelors Degree in Jazz Performance from Columbia College in Chicago in 2007.

John Monaco
Guitar
Available Mondays and Saturdays
John is currently in the process of earning his Bachelor’s of Music from Vandercook School of Music in Chicago. John started his studies with our own Keith Wollenberg. He took lessons at A Sound Education before pursuing his degree. Now an instructor here, John enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels. His favorite styles of music include rock, funk, jazz, classical and heavy metal.

Eric Olson
Guitar
Available Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays
Eric is a singer/song writer/guitarist from the Chicagoland area. He has professionally taught private lessons for several years and is currently a student at Columbia College in Chicago. Eric is working toward his Bachelor of Arts in music with a concentration in composition. He has played guitar for more than 10 years, focusing on classical, folk, blues, and rock. 

Matt Rice
Guitar
Available Monday through Thursday and Saturdays
Matt Rice has more than 20 years of experience playing guitar and studied under the legendary Harry Hmura. He is proficient in all styles of music—metal, jazz, rock, blues, shred, and more. Matt enjoys teaching students of all ages and with varying musical tastes. He's taught at A Sound Education since 2003.

Keith Wollenberg
Guitar
Available Monday through Thursday and Saturdays
Keith has played guitar for 17 years. He earned his Bachelors in music from Benedictine University studying jazz guitar, classical guitar, and music education. He has taught all styles for 11 years, as well as played gigs and recorded with numerous groups. Keith has taught at A Sound Education since our first day.

Percussion

Kevin Johnston
Available Mondays
Kevin is an active musician and plays all over the Chicagoland area. He got his start playing overseas with Chicago guitar great, Buddy Guy. Kevin was Buddy’s tour drummer and had the unique experience of playing with him for several years in Europe and Asia. Kevin has been teaching at A Sound Education since our doors opened.

Chris Morrow
Available Tuesday through Saturday
Chris is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He is a professional drummer and percussionist in the Chicago area. An active performer and recording artist, Chris can be heard on albums by the Jigawatt Trio, the New Fuse, Matt Robinson and many others. He maintains a full performance schedule all over the Midwest with artists in a wide variety of genres. Chris has been teaching at A Sound Education since 2001, and has more than 50 students every week.

Piano & Keyboard

Sharon Little-Junsay
Piano, Keyboard, Organ
Available Monday through Saturday
Sharon began her career as a music specialist educator in 1978. She teaches piano, keyboard, organ as well as Orff-Schulwerk® percussion instruments for students ages five to adult. Through utilizing theory, ear-training, sight-reading, technique and creative projects in her lessons Sharon fosters the learning environment. She has been with A Sound Education since day one and teaches more than 50 students every week!

Ty Hendickson
Piano
Available Wednesday and Thursday
Ty has almost 20 years of experience playing piano, having started when he was only four-years-old. After studying dramatic musical scoring in Olympia, Washington, Ty moved back to Chicago. He enjoys playing a wide variety instruments and musical styles. His favorite genres on piano are classical and jazz.

Violin, Cello, Viola

Katie Andrick
Available Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday
Katie has studied violin for 12 years and is well versed on the viola, cello and guitar, as well. She is currently pursuing music degrees in Music Education and Theory Composition from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Katie has taught at A Sound Education since 2004. She teaches her students everything from classical to rock on stringed instruments. She also plays violin in a gypsy jazz group, The Hot Club Quartet of Chicago, and frequently performs as a soloist.

Nikki Lapwing
Vocals
Available Tuesdays
A graduate of Elmhurst College with a degree in music education, Nikki is currently the head of the choral department at Infinity Math and Science Academy in Chicago. She teaches all styles and levels of vocals and has been with A Sound Education since 2004.

Woodwind & Brass

Ayn Brendel
Woodwind & Brass
Available Saturdays
Ayn is a senior at Elmhurst College majoring in Music Education. Her primary instrument is the saxophone. She plays in numerous ensembles including jazz band, jazz combos, saxophone quartets and wind ensemble.

Ayn is a three-time honor’s recital winner, has been selected twice to play in the Elmhurst Research and Performance Showcase and is the president of Lambda Sigma Pai Music Honor Society, She has also been the section head for the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival for three years.

Tim Kerwin
Woodwind & Brass
Available Monday and Wednesday
Tim received his BA in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin. He was a graduate student at the University of Chicago and finished his Masters Degree at Northeastern Illinois University.
Tim’s current position at Curie High School for the Performing Arts in Chicago focuses on instrumental and electronic music. His primary instrument is French horn and he enjoys teaching students of all levels and ages.

Rick Reynolds
Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet
Available Thursdays
Rick received his Bachelors of Music degree in Music Education from NIU in Dekalb, Illinois. A former assistant band director at Riverside-Brookfield High School, he has been teaching private lessons for more than 20 years. Rick also performs with the band “Midnight” on sax, flute and vocals. He has taught at A Sound Education since 2001.
